New Developments in Smith Mountain Lake

Smith Mountain Lake embodies the true meaning of recreation and relaxation. This is a community where you can wake up each morning to unbelievable views of pristine waterscapes surrounded by the misty peaks of the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains. A community where endless hours are spent fishing on boats, riding jet skis, or floating on calm waters while feeling the warm rays of the sun.

Considered one of the most picturesque locations in all of Virginia, Smith Mountain Lake is both a top destination for thousands of vacationers and an ideal place to live, especially for those who love the outdoors.

Smith Mountain Lake is already home to several great communities and neighborhoods, and with new additions, the area continues to provide an exceptional quality of life for its residents.

Two of the newest developments in the area are:

Roanoke River Blueway

The Roanoke River Blueway is a development made possible by the joint efforts of the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission and several local governments, nonprofit organizations, fishermen, boaters, and local outfitters.

The 45-mile water trail runs from South Fork Roanoke River to the Hardy Ford Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) at Smith Mountain Lake.

The blueway connects local parks, and opens up plenty of recreational activities such as canoeing, tubing, kayaking, fishing, wildlife viewing, and more.

South Harbour

Located along Dudley Amos Road, South Harbour is a newly developed 100-acre residential community that’s comprised of around 40 properties. The community is part of the 250-acre farm owned by the Amos family, and is one of the most scenic havens you’ll ever lay your eyes on around Smith Mountain Lake.

Starting from its Colonial brick entrance, a paradise punctuated by hundreds of soaring hardwood trees, refreshing open spaces, and gently sloping hills paints a picture of perfection for visitors.

The community features:

  • A network of picturesque walking trails
  • A viewing deck with panoramic views
  • Restored tobacco barns
  • Waterfront lots in South Harbor that make it perfect for boaters to enjoy easy access to the channels
